VMworld 2012 Highlights: Death to vRAM and many more!

Now that the hustle and bustle of setting up the VCE Booth is over (and it looks great by the way!), I can settle down and share some of the highlights that have excited me up to this point.

Number 1: Death to vRAM!!!!  There, I’ve said it and gotten it out of my system…well, maybe.

Seriously though, among the many announcements in yesterday’s keynote, the removal of vRAM entitlement (or are they changing it to unlimited?) will be a welcome change to new and existing vSphere customers.

Other cool highlights included:

* The official VMworld announcement of Pat Gelsinger as the new CEO (Thank you Paul for many great years at VMware and good luck in the new role on the EMC Board!)

* vSphere 5.1!!!!!!

* The announcement of the Cloud Infrastructure Suite: Customers now have the option of purchasing a complete Cloud Solution from VMware, which includes vSphere (of course) vCenter Operations Manager, vFabric Application Director, SRM, and other components to accelerate the journey to Private and Hybrid Cloud workloads.

Best of all, existing vSphere Enterprise Plus customers get a free upgrade to vCloud Suite Standard

* Demos of Nicira and DynamicOps being used to manage hybrid workloads, and the Nicira Team is officially part of Team VMware as of last Friday!

With so many great announcements this early in the show, I’m excited to see what the rest of the week has in-store!

Please share some of your own favorite highlights from the show in the comments section below
